ISRO Schedules LVM3-M6 Heavy-Lift Mission for December 24

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has announced that its next heavy-lift mission, LVM3-M6, will be launched on December 24, 2025, at 08:54 hours IST. The launch will take place from the Second Launch Pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC SHAR) in Sriharikota. LVM3 is the designated launch vehicle for India’s Gaganyaan human spaceflight programme and is the most powerful rocket developed by ISRO.

ISRO has also confirmed that members of the public will be allowed to witness the launch in person from the Launch View Gallery at SDSC SHAR. Interested viewers must register online through ISRO’s official portal to gain access. Announcing the schedule, ISRO said the launch would be conducted from the Second Launch Pad and that public viewing would be enabled through prior online registration.

Standing over 43 metres tall and weighing around 640 tonnes at lift-off, the LVM3 is capable of placing payloads of up to 8,000 kilograms into Low Earth Orbit. The rocket uses a three-stage configuration that includes two solid strap-on boosters, a liquid core stage, and a cryogenic upper stage, making it one of the most complex and demanding missions undertaken by the Indian space agency.

While ISRO has not yet disclosed the exact payload details for the LVM3-M6 mission, it is widely seen as part of the organisation’s long-term roadmap. This includes preparations for the Gaganyaan programme, deployment of advanced communication satellites, and future space exploration initiatives aimed at strengthening India’s position in global space research.
