Google has introduced its new “Gemini Personal Intelligence” feature in India, expanding the capabilities of its AI ecosystem for everyday users. The update enhances the Gemini app by turning it into a more context-aware assistant that adapts to individual user behavior and preferences.
The feature integrates seamlessly with key Google services such as Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, and Google Search, allowing it to deliver highly personalised responses, recommendations, and summaries. This cross-app connectivity enables users to interact with their data more intuitively.
Unlike traditional AI assistants, Gemini Personal Intelligence operates on an opt-in model, where users can choose which services to connect. By building a personalised context layer, the assistant can handle complex, real-life queries such as planning trips based on past activity or retrieving specific details from emails with greater accuracy.
Google has emphasised a privacy-first approach, ensuring that users retain full control over their data. Personal information is not used to directly train AI models, and connections between apps can be disabled at any time, offering greater transparency and security.
The rollout also introduces features like context-aware responses and proactive assistance, including potential daily summaries that highlight important updates, reminders, and insights. Additionally, the feature supports multiple platforms, including web, Android, and iOS, making it widely accessible.
Gemini’s capabilities extend further through integration with browsers and productivity tools. With Gemini in Chrome and Google Workspace apps such as Docs, Sheets, and Drive, users can summarise content, compare information across tabs, and automate routine tasks more efficiently.
The feature began rolling out in India in April 2026, initially for subscribers of Google’s premium AI plans, with a wider release expected for free-tier users in the coming weeks.
