India Post launches next-day delivery service across six major cities

India’s Department of Posts has introduced a next-day delivery system in key metropolitan regions, marking a significant upgrade in its logistics network. The initiative was launched in New Delhi by Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, covering cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.

Under the first phase, the postal department has rolled out three service categories designed to speed up deliveries: 24-hour Speed Post for documents, 24-hour parcel delivery, and a 48-hour delivery option. Authorities confirmed that the second phase will expand coverage to additional cities by the end of September, while an international rollout is planned by March 2027.

The move is aimed at strengthening India Post’s role in the rapidly growing e-commerce logistics sector. The department is positioning itself as a reliable fulfilment partner for major platforms like Amazon and Flipkart, as demand for faster deliveries rises across both urban and rural regions.

Pricing for the express document service begins at ₹38 for local shipments and increases based on distance and weight, while parcel delivery charges start from ₹200 and go higher for heavier consignments. The department has also introduced a refund policy if deliveries fail to meet the promised timelines.

Officials highlighted a sharp increase in parcel traffic over the past year, driven largely by growing online shopping activity beyond major cities. To support this demand, the new services include features such as real-time tracking, priority air transport, secure delivery verification through OTP, and operations on weekends and holidays.
