US–Iran War Impact: India Invokes Emergency Powers, Boosts LPG Production to Prevent Cooking Gas Shortage

India has invoked emergency powers and directed oil refiners to increase LPG production following concerns that the ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran could disrupt global fuel supply chains. The move is aimed at preventing any potential shortage of cooking gas in the country as geopolitical instability in the Middle East raises the risk of energy supply disruptions.

Officials have reportedly asked state-run refiners to prioritize LPG output and ensure adequate domestic availability. India depends heavily on crude oil imports from the Middle East, and any escalation in the US–Iran conflict could affect shipping routes, increase crude prices, and strain supply logistics. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation while coordinating with oil companies to maintain stable fuel distribution.

The government’s proactive steps are intended to safeguard household energy needs and prevent price shocks in the domestic market. By ramping up LPG production and preparing contingency measures, India is trying to cushion consumers from the potential economic and energy impacts of a wider geopolitical conflict.
