Bengaluru to Get New Museum Showcasing India’s Tech and Startup Journey

Bengaluru is preparing to build a new museum dedicated to India’s technology and startup growth. The project will come up on a 12,000 sq m area at the old Switch Gear factory on the NGEF campus in Baiyappanahalli. It is being developed jointly by the Department of Electronics, IT & BT and S&T, along with the civic innovation group UnboxingBLR.

The Karnataka Technology and Innovation Museum Foundation (KTIMF) will oversee the development. The first phase of the museum is planned for 2027, with the second phase to follow soon after. A global Request for Proposal for the design will also be floated shortly, and the total project cost is estimated at around ₹100 crore.

According to Prashanth Prakash, co-founder and chairperson of UnboxingBLR, the museum will highlight four to five decades of India’s technological progress. He said Bengaluru’s digital and entrepreneurial contributions over the last 25 years have played a major role in shaping India’s modern economy.

The museum will combine tech history, present developments and future innovations, with exhibits covering milestones from research labs, industries, startups and government institutions. Interactive and modern displays are planned to make the experience more engaging for all age groups.

With strong industry and government support, the museum aims to become a major cultural and educational hub for the city. It is expected to serve as a learning space for students, an inspiration for entrepreneurs and a place where the public can explore how technology has shaped India’s growth.
