Humanoid Robot Dance Steals Attention at IIT Bombay Techfest 2025

A humanoid robot became the centre of attention at IIT Bombay Techfest 2025 after delivering a lively dance performance to the popular track ‘Fa9la’ (Sher-e-Baloch). The performance quickly went viral online, with many viewers affectionately calling the robot “Chitti Dakait”.

What was meant to be a technical showcase at Asia’s largest science and technology festival turned into an entertaining spectacle. The robot moved in perfect rhythm to the Arabic beats and even recreated signature dance steps associated with actor Akshaye Khanna from the film Dhurandhar. Many viewers were impressed by how accurately the robot captured the style and energy of the choreography.

The act highlighted the rapid progress of artificial intelligence and creative coding. Social media users praised the smooth movements and said the robot seemed to carry the “aura” of the song. According to the original post, the performance was presented by Bidyut Innovation.

However, several users claimed that the robot appeared to be a Unitree G1, a highly advanced humanoid developed by China-based Unitree Robotics, known for its agility and precise motor control. Comparisons were also made to “Chitti”, the famous robot character played by Rajinikanth in Indian cinema.

Online reactions ranged from humour to admiration. Some joked that Akshaye Khanna finally has competition, while others said that no technology can truly replace human performers. By choosing a chart-topping song featuring Ranveer Singh, R Madhavan, and Akshaye Khanna, Techfest 2025 successfully connected complex robotics with popular culture, making advanced technology more relatable to the public.
