India and EU Strengthen Ties to Develop Advanced Technologies

India and the European Union (EU) have decided to collaborate on advancing modern technologies and securing critical raw material supply chains. The announcement was made by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal during his visit to Brussels, where he met Maros Sefcovic, the European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security.

The discussions aimed at deepening economic ties and addressing shared global challenges.The leaders emphasized the importance of finalizing a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) that would promote equitable trade practices. They agreed to remove tariff and non-tariff barriers, streamline processes, and enhance cost competitiveness for businesses in both regions. Goyal reiterated India’s commitment to fostering a commercially meaningful partnership with the EU, which aligns with the shared vision of a sustainable and resilient economic framework.B

oth sides also discussed the integration of trade with sustainable development, highlighting their mutual respect for common but differentiated responsibilities. The EU and India plan to work closely in areas such as green technologies, energy transition, and digital innovation, considering their unique developmental priorities. The move is expected to pave the way for greater economic cooperation while addressing environmental concerns.

To ensure steady progress, a roadmap for ongoing consultations between senior officials and ministers has been established. Regular engagements will aim to resolve challenges and provide political direction for a strong and comprehensive FTA. This partnership between India and the EU marks a significant step toward fostering global economic security and innovation.
