Zepto Introduces In-App UPI Payments for Seamless Checkout

Quick-commerce unicorn Zepto has quietly launched an in-app UPI payments option, allowing users to complete transactions without leaving the app. The new feature enables customers to enter and authorize UPI credentials directly within Zepto, avoiding the need to switch to third-party apps like Google Pay or PhonePe.

Once set up, users can select UPI at checkout and approve payments instantly within the app. This streamlined process reduces manual steps such as copying UPI IDs or scanning QR codes, while also giving Zepto direct insight into transaction success and failure rates—a key metric for high-frequency commerce.

The move aligns Zepto with other leading quick-commerce and food delivery platforms. Swiggy introduced Swiggy UPI in 2024 using NPCI’s UPI Plug-in, aiming for faster checkouts and fewer payment failures. Similarly, Zomato launched an in-app UPI service in partnership with ICICI Bank, enabling real-time payments through Zomato-linked UPI IDs.

With this launch, Zepto joins its rivals in simplifying digital payments and keeping the entire checkout experience within the app, reflecting a growing trend among consumer platforms to enhance convenience and efficiency.
