Noida International Airport at Jewar Nears Launch as India’s Largest Greenfield Project

The Noida International Airport at Jewar is set to begin operations around March 28, marking a major milestone in India’s infrastructure development. Located near the Yamuna Expressway in western Uttar Pradesh, the project is being developed as the country’s largest greenfield airport, aimed at enhancing air connectivity and supporting long-term economic growth in the region.

In its initial phase, the airport is expected to handle nearly 12 million passengers annually. Authorities have outlined plans for phased expansion over the coming years, with the goal of significantly increasing capacity and positioning the airport among the largest aviation hubs globally. The project is designed to accommodate future demand while easing congestion at existing airports in the National Capital Region.

The airport incorporates modern design elements and advanced technology to ensure efficient operations. Facilities include a streamlined terminal layout, multiple aerobridges, and digital systems aimed at improving passenger flow and reducing waiting times. These features are intended to offer a smoother travel experience while maintaining high operational standards.

Sustainability has been a central focus in the airport’s development. The facility is being designed as a net-zero emissions airport, with plans to use renewable energy generated through an on-site solar power plant. Additional measures such as electric vehicle infrastructure, rainwater harvesting, and waste management systems have been integrated to minimize environmental impact.

Beyond passenger travel, the airport is expected to play a significant role in boosting logistics and trade through its dedicated cargo hub. Improved connectivity through expressways, metro links, and proposed rapid rail systems will enhance accessibility. Officials have highlighted the project as a key driver of economic growth, with expectations that it could contribute substantially to the state’s economy in the coming years.
