Markets across Kerala are witnessing heavy activity as the state prepares for Easter this Sunday, followed by Vishu on April 15. Shops and trading centres in all 14 districts are seeing increased footfall, with people rushing to complete their festive shopping early.
Demand for chicken, eggs, and bakery items has gone up sharply ahead of Easter. Traders say meat prices are likely to increase further in the coming days due to high demand. At the same time, vegetable prices have also shown a noticeable rise compared to previous weeks, adding to the overall cost of celebrations for households.
Textile markets are also busy, with large consignments of garments arriving from Tirupur in Tamil Nadu and Surat in Gujarat. Retailers report strong sales as people purchase new clothes for the festive season. Traders have also sourced food grains and other essentials from major markets in northern cities, including Delhi, to meet the rising demand.
Supply of fruits and vegetables has increased, with goods arriving from Tamil Nadu and other northern states. Despite steady supply, prices remain on the higher side due to transportation costs and seasonal demand. Vendors say fluctuations are expected to continue through the festive period.
Preparations for Vishu are also gaining pace, with Vishu Kani items expected to reach markets by April 13. Shops have begun stocking essential items required for the ritual. Meanwhile, firecracker outlets across Kerala are reopening, with supplies mainly coming from Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu. Traders note that cracker prices are slightly higher this year, but demand remains strong as people prepare to celebrate.
Overall, the festive season has brought energy to the markets, with strong buying trends seen across sectors. Despite rising prices, the mood remains positive as people across Kerala get ready to celebrate Easter and Vishu.
