Amid rising air pollution, IntrCity SmartBus has announced a new fleet fitted with air-purification systems, becoming the first bus operator in India to introduce such technology. The fleet, named ‘IntrCity SmartBus.AQI’, will monitor and filter air inside the bus throughout long-distance journeys, providing cleaner and healthier travel for passengers. The rollout begins in North India, covering cities like Lucknow, Kanpur, Katra and Pathankot.
To address poor in-cabin air quality, the company has partnered with climate-tech firm Respirer Living Sciences to install filtration systems that help reduce PM2.5 particles, carbon dioxide, dust and smoke. Passengers will also be able to view real-time air-quality data both onboard and through the IntrCity mobile app.
IntrCity SmartBus currently operates across more than 630 routes in 15 states and was founded in 2011 by Manish Rathi, Sachin Saxena and Kapil Raizada. Known for innovations such as onboard washrooms, boarding lounges, digital check-ins and trained Bus Captains, the company has now taken a major step towards safer travel by focusing on the air passengers breathe inside closed buses.
The newly launched SmartBus.AQI fleet integrates continuous air purification and monitoring technology, circulating fresh and safe air throughout the journey. A dedicated SmartBus.AQI microsite has also been introduced to educate travellers and the public about the technology and the benefits of clean-air travel.
