Tech billionaire Elon Musk, who recently became the first person to cross a net worth of $800 billion, sparked online discussion after sharing a reflective post on money and happiness.
“Whoever said ‘money can’t buy happiness’ really knew what they were talking about,” Musk wrote on X, adding a sad emoji. The remark from the world’s richest individual quickly drew widespread reactions from social media users.
Several users shared mixed views on the relationship between wealth and well-being. One commenter noted that while money may not guarantee happiness, the absence of it can create constant stress due to bills, responsibilities, and expectations. Another user jokingly replied, “Send me 1 million dollars so I can understand you.” Others echoed philosophical takes, saying money can buy comfort but not essentials like sleep, peace of mind, or fulfillment. One comment pointed out that it is easier to reflect philosophically when basic needs such as rent are already taken care of.
Some users also suggested that happiness often comes from helping others and personal relationships, urging Musk to reflect on the global impact of his work and the value of long-term companionship.
According to Forbes, Musk’s net worth surged beyond the $800 billion mark following a major corporate development. His aerospace company SpaceX recently acquired his artificial intelligence venture xAI in a deal valued at around $1.25 trillion. The transaction is estimated to have increased Musk’s personal wealth by approximately $84 billion, taking it to about $852 billion.
