In a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has introduced a 24×7 automated LPG vending machine named Bharatgas Insta in Gurugram. The pilot facility has been installed at Central Park, Flower Valley Society in Sector 33, Sohna, marking a significant shift in how urban consumers can access cooking gas.
The project aims to address common issues such as delayed deliveries and long waiting times by enabling users to exchange LPG cylinders instantly through a self-service system. The rollout comes at a time when several regions across India are experiencing supply delays, with delivery timelines extending up to a week in some areas.
The fully digital and contactless system allows customers to complete the entire process within minutes. Users can log in using their registered mobile number and verify access through an OTP. The empty cylinder is then placed on an integrated weighing platform and identified via barcode or QR code scanning. Once payment is completed through UPI, debit or credit card, or net banking, a filled cylinder is dispensed through a separate unit.
The machine is designed to hold multiple empty cylinders while storing up to ten filled cylinders at a time, ensuring quick turnaround for users. It dispenses lightweight composite LPG cylinders made of fibre, which are significantly lighter than traditional metal cylinders and easier to handle. Some of these cylinders are also translucent, allowing users to visually track gas levels.
Currently, the service is limited to Bharatgas consumers within the housing society as part of a controlled pilot program. If successful, BPCL is expected to expand the concept to other urban areas, potentially transforming last-mile LPG distribution across India.
